JOHN HAYES TRAVEL FUND
Here’s your chance to experience the
works of art you most want to see,
wherever they are.
The John Hayes Travel Fund* provides undergraduates with funding to experience original artworks outside of the UK.
The purpose of this fund is to provide undergraduates with promising academic qualifications the opportunity to further their knowledge of the history of art through the examination of original works of art situated outside the UK.
A small number of grants (of up to £1,500) will be awarded to students whose projects show originality and a commitment to the direct experience of works of art.
Applicants should apply using the application form attached or available on the VLE (under Registry à Fees and Funding),
with a statement outlining their proposed trip, the works of art that they would plan to see, their motivation for the trip and a full budget. Award holders will be required to submit a report
on the completion of the project.
DEADLINE:
Completed applications must be received by the Dean’s Assistant
both by email (deans.assistant@courtauld.ac.uk)
and in hard copy (which can be left in Professor David Solkin’s pigeon hole)
on or before Tuesday 8th May 2012
*Dr John Hayes, an alumnus of the Courtauld, died in 2005 having latterly been Director of the National Portrait Gallery for over twenty years.
He always appreciated the benefit he derived from a travel scholarship and he generously donated funds in his Will so that other students might enjoy a similar benefit.

-A large grouping of Courtauld PhD Students have requested
interest in establishing a PhD study space at the Courtauld. They would
like to use this space as a multipurpose space: A place to get
together, study, write, have tea/coffee, store their books and research
materials, etc. Further, many PhD students are teacher assistants for
courses and are required to have a check-in meeting with each of their
students. A PhD study space could provide an alternative space (other
than the student cafe) for these meetings. As the Courtauld PhD
representative, I am proposing the creation of this PhD study space on behalf
of the PhD students and will be at the OGM meeting to answer any questions.
- The BA course should have an option for study
abroad.
- The BA course should develop toward a
module model (like
most other universities) and work with other
universities to
share module courses e.g. in languages,
philosophy,
anthropology etc.
- We
should work with universities such as UCL and SOAS to enable BA to take out
books (as course books on short loan do not facilitate in depth reading/ or
mean that you have to spend a lot of money on photocopying!)
- The Courtauld Student
Union should define its
political position with regards to recent austerity
measures, based upon the consensus of this OGM.

According to urbandictionary.com the definition of a Courtauld student is:
1. Courtauld /ˈkɔːtəʊld/ One who attends the Courtauld Insitute of Art, London. Typically having . . . a propensity to drink excessive amounts of gin. Girls tend to be hot though. Outnumber boys 9:1 e.g. At exhibition opening: 'Damn check out that Courtauld chick'
